I really enjoyed the latest DSC podcast with Steve, and I did listen to the
whole thing! There is one flaw that I see in podcasting that is similar
to the flaw that allowed the consultants to take over FM. That is the
cost of entry. The cost of entry in FM was the transmitter. People
can today get micro transmitters similar to your 100watt transmitter
that you loaned the troops in Iraq, but they have no impact. It is
the big guys that have impact.
The same problem WILL plauge podcasting unless we act. The problem is
bandwidth, as the Strategycast showed. That is the cost of entry
that could kill a mass market for podcasting. There are multiple ways
around this such as bittorrent, and it is not as complex as you think.
As you said podcasting is like tivo for audio, and bittorrent + rss
is like tivo for torrents. There are already clients that show this.
Look at clients like videora. To marry the two and make it automagic
to download content to a computer based on feeds, and below that
search criteria.
Check it out and please let me know what you think..
